Spain and Morocco

With a weekend free from weddings in May, I decided to escape for a fortnight and find some sun and heat. I headed to the south of Spain, to see my artist friend Kath.

Now, I've never thought of Photography as art, and one of Kath's pictures surely proves it!

I've always been a photographer of reality. I photograph what I see, as I see it. Artists have the option of moving buildings, changing the sky, improving the weather. Photographers win by catching that 'hidden' moment - something that can happen at weddings, but not with landscapes.

Anyway, here are mine and Kath's versions of the same scene. The artist definitely wins this one!

The cow on the beach is at Bolonia, as is the beach cafe and roman ruins. It's a tiny hamlet between Cadiz and Tarifa, full of antiquities and weird sights. That's Morocco in the background behind the cow - my next stop.

I'd never visited Essaouira, on the Atlantic coast, before. But what an amazing, laid back place. Much, much, smaller than Marrakech, you can probably 'do' the entire old town in a day. The atmosphere is really laid back, the temperature always cooled by the sea winds, and if I was in charge, I'd market it as a honeymoon destination! Here's a few pictures:
